Listen to the Obituary
Ronnie Mitchell, age 74, of the Slate Branch Community in Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
He was born on February 28, 1950 in Jamestown, Kentucky, to the late Eugene and Sylvia Mitchell. He was Plant Manager at American Waterways and of the Baptist faith. Ronnie also served his country in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, mowing his yard, and going to the gun range with his son, Kolton. He was always known to do anything for anybody at any time. Ronnie was a hard worker who loved his family and cherished his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carolyn Morris Mitchell; his children, Kevin Mitchell, Kelly (Johnny) Mitchell, Kasey Pennington Compton (Kelsey), Kolton Mitchell and Kyra Mitchell. His grandchildren, Maime Compton, Lennon Pennington and Thayer Pennington, who knew him as “Pepperoni”.
I believe everyone has certain traits that make them unique, and for everybody that knows and loves Ronnie, they would agree his way was the way he could always take center stage with his magnetic story telling and shenanigans. He was the hero in every story.
He could always make the room roar with laughter and lighten any mood, even with hard conversations such as his own passing. Cremation was Ronnie’s request. He has discussed this with his daughter, Kasey, who had asked for some of his ashes when he passed. He replied, “Bring a jar and get there early, ‘cause there will be a line!”
Final storytelling to reminisce with family and friends will take place at a later date. To be announced.
Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Ronnie Mitchell.
