Richard Lee Hibbs, age 77 passed away July 14, 2026 after a short illness of Leukemia. He was born in Buckhannon, West Virginia on January 11,1949 to the parents of Roy Hibbs and Verval Greathouse Hibbs.
 
He graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur high school and Cumberland College where he met his wife, Patty Bullock. They were married August 6, 1977 at
Pleasant Run Baptist Church, with 49 years of marriage.
He was a proud veteran, where he served in the U.S. Army as military police officer at Fort Sill, OK. He served his community as a substitute teacher for Pulaski County School system and his church as the Sunday School Superintendent.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Teresa Phillips.
He is survived by his wife Patty and his children Kevin (Terri) Hibbs, Lisa (Brandon) Rose and grandchildren Charles and Katherine Hibbs and Isabella Rose.
 
Also surviving are his sisters Glenna Teets, Arlene June Campbell and Velta Carpenter, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 17 at Southern Oakes Funeral Home with visitation from 10am-12pm. Funeral will begin at 12pm and will be conducted by Rev. David Dykes and Rev. Brandon Rose. Burial will be at Short Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Kevin Hibbs, Charlie Hibbs, Brandon Rose, Jason Bullock, David Bullock, Josh Dick, Steve Phillips, and Patrick Miller.
In lieu of flowers the family request expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Gideon Bible Fund.
