(Ethel) Lucille Hargis passed away on June 22, 2026 at Sayre Christian Skilled Nursing Facility in Lexington, Ky after suffering a stroke on December 24, 2025.
Lucille was a stay at home mom, longtime babysitter in the Somerset area and a longtime employee in the nursery and Mother’s Day Out program at First Baptist Church in Somerset, Ky. She was a caregiver to neighbors, always willing to help when needed. Being the wife of a longtime pastor, she was a member of several churches in the Cumberland River Association. Her favorite names to be called were Mom and Mamaw.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bro. Gene Hargis, who she married on January 1, 1954. Also preceding her in death were 2 precious grandsons, Eagan Scott Hargis and Kieran Colby Hargis, her parents, Floyd (Pete) Adams and Dora Bryant Adams, brothers William (Bill) Adams, Coy Adams and Donald Adams.
She is survived by her son Gary (Beverly) Hargis of Somerset, Ky; daughter Cathy Hargis Thompson (Tony) of Lexington, Ky; grandsons Chris Hargis, Aaron (Faye) Hargis, 4 great-grandchildren Gavin Hargis, Sara Hargis, Sadie Hargis and Isaac Hargis, her sisters, Betty Dicken, Allene Bullock, Ola (Dennis) Hagstrom and Mary (Bob) Abney, a brother Bobby Adams, 2 sisters-in-law, Sandy Adams and Pam Adams, very special person Jennifer Lee Hargis, several nieces, nephews, longtime friend, Brenda Wesley.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 from 11am-1pm in the Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with a funeral service to begin at 1pm with Bro. David Harmon and Bro. Reggie Stringer officiating. Burial will follow in White Lily Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to be made to White Lily Baptist Church Cemetery Fund 425 White Lily Church Road Somerset, Ky 42501.
