Luid Jasper “Pappy” Gover, 89, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away at his residence on
Saturday, April 11, 2026.
A native of Nancy, Kentucky, he was born on September 5, 1936, to the late William Jennings
“Willie” Gover and Mayme Lee Rogers Gover.
Luid spent much of his career working in insurance and automobile sales before becoming
co-owner of Oak Hill Food Mart in Somerset, where he proudly served his community for 26
years.
He was a faithful member of Science Hill Trinity Church, where he sang in the choir and was
part of several quartets. His love for music and fellowship was a meaningful part of his life.
Luid was an avid sports fan who found great joy in watching his sons and grandchildren play
and coach. He also had a deep love for horses and enjoyed riding and showing them over the
years. He cherished time spent with family, especially at reunions and gatherings with loved
ones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Sue
Marilyn Gover; his brother, William Jennings Gover, Jr.; and his sister, Pauline Gover
Ruttenberg.
He is survived by his three sons, Greg (Marylee) Gover and Alan (Kim) Gover, both of
Somerset, and Brad (Melanie) Gover of London, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Morgan (Adam)
Sheridan and Taylor (Bethany) Gover of Somerset, Peyton Gover of Lexington, Hollyn Gover of
Somerset, Eva (McGavinn) Brown of Bowling Green, and Eli Gover of London; Lauren (Dalton) Perkins;
and four great-grandchildren, Griffin, Boone, Clay Sheridan, and Sonny Gover, all of Somerset.
He is also survived by three sisters, Geraldean Redmon and Judith Meece, both of Somerset,
and Ruby Wissick of Lexington, along with numerous extended family members and friends.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Please join us to celebrate Lu id’s life on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026, for visitation from 10:00 am to
1:00 pm. The Celebration of Life Service will follow directly after at 1:00 pm with Shaun
Denney and Brother Jacob Wilson officiating. Visitation and Service will be at Southern Oaks Funeral Home, 2100 KY-914, Somerset, KY 42503. Burial will follow at Whitus Cemetery.
I’m so sorry for your loss yet knowing your father’s life and legacy it is only a temporary separation. I thought so highly of Luid and all of his family. I would have paid my respects but I only saw this Wednesday night.
