Listen to the Obituary
Bill Lay, age 83, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
Bill was born on January 1, 1943 to the late Earl Lay and Enzie Hudson Lay in Ferguson, Kentucky.
Bill was a quiet man who was always thinking. He loved to “piddle” and would take things apart just to see the workings and to have the opportunity to reassemble. He could make or fix anything. He liked anything old, especially old cars, steam engines, vintage clocks and watches. He enjoyed UK basketball and NASCAR. Bill loved all animals and enjoyed watching wildlife. He especially loved his cats. If he had a favorite, it would have been “Little Momma”. Bill will be gravely missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was survived by his wife, Brenda Lay.
Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at 1pm at Somerset Cemetery with Bro. Tyler Ford officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Bill Lay.
Bill was a quit man who was kind to everyone. We was very smart and could do anything he put his mind to doing. He was a good friend to my Dad Skeets Thacker. He worked at MidState for many years and worked in the specialty department. Which ment he rebuilt items no one else could do. The world is a little darker knowing Bill is no longer in it.
I love you uncle Bill & will miss you every day. Rest in peace.
