Barbara Michele “Barb” Witten, 47, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away on November 5, 2026. She was born on April 6, 1979, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and was raised in Belleville, Michigan. Barb had made Somerset her home since February 2006.
Barb was the youngest of five girls, a tiny little thing with a giant spirit and more than a little feistiness. Growing up, she loved family trips to Kentucky, playing softball with her sisters, and being pampered as the “baby” of the family. When she got sassy with her big sisters, she could outrun every one of them. They could never catch her.
Barb became the mother of Justin and later Victoria. She and Justin shared a special bond and a close friendship. They leaned on each other for companionship, a listening ear, and support as they grew through life together. Barb and Victoria shared a love for small animals and created their own little “farm” with hamsters, mice, guinea pigs, bunnies, and more.
Barb loved her children and her five grandchildren dearly. Her grandchildren knew that Grandma would take them for candy and slushies whenever they asked.
She loved grunge rock and enjoyed working on puzzles and playing the occasional computer game. Standing a mighty 4 feet 10 inches tall, Barb spoke her mind and never backed down. Her strong spirit and feistiness were part of what made her so unforgettable.
Barb is survived by her parents, Carl and Sandy Witten; her son, Justin Witten (Ashley); her daughter, Victoria Witten; and her five grandchildren, Natalie, Brooklynn, Jazzmine, Jonah, and Aria.
She is also survived by her siblings, Dawn Davenport (Robert), Kimberly Carroll (Dwight), Tracy Vissers (Michael), Sheila Congdon (Tracy), and Timothy Witten (Angel); along with many nieces and nephews, including Michael, Heather, Billy, Ryan, Brandon, Gavin, Courtney, Olivia, Emma, and Jameson; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Barb was preceded in death by her nephew, Michael, who passed away on July 5, 2026. Her family finds comfort in knowing that Michael was there to welcome her into Heaven.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Southern Oaks Funeral Home, 2110 West Highway 914, Somerset, Kentucky 42503. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
