Larry Moore Lay, 85, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at his family’s home.
Larry was born May 28, 1939 in Ferguson, Kentucky to Earl Lay and Enzie Lay.
He retired from Don’s Auto-Body Shop, where he meticulously completed 65 years of auto mechanic work.
He was a member of High Street Baptist Church, an avid UK basketball fan, and the world’s very best Pap.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Enzie Lay; his wife, Ann Shirley Lay; and their daughter, Sheryl Ann Shoemaker; siblings, Betty Ann (Richard) Starnes, Edwin Lewis (Margaret) Lay, Max Leighton (Edith) Lay and James Howard (Ann) Lay.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son in law Neal Shoemaker; son, Larry Travis (Ren) Lay; siblings, Rose (Johnny) Gover, Earlene (Buddy) Bullock, Linda (Lyle) Edwards, Bill (Brenda) Lay; brother in law, Chester (Karoline) Stringer; grandchildren, Britani Shoemaker, Brooke (Jordan) Begley, Bree (Israel) Shoemaker, Stephanie (Clarence) Hubbard, Brye Lay; great-grandchildren, Quaneisha Shoemaker, A.C. Prater, Jalil McBride, Nola Begley, Graham Begley, Eden Begley, Forrest Begley, Helen Begley, Morgan Jones, Julian Jones, Bella Hubbard, Walker Hammond and grand dog, “Rosie”.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, family at 11 A.M. to 12 P.M. Public visitation from 12 P.M. to 2 P.M. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 2 P.M. with Bro. Ed Amundson officiating. Burial will follow in the Somerset Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to High Street Baptist Church 102 Bourne Avenue Somerset, Ky 42501. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Larry Moore Lay.
