Margaret Ann Calder, age 89, of Somerset, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord, on May 27, 2026 at home with family and special friend by her side. She was born to the late Thomas Carl Burns and Nellie May Swartz Burns Johnson on May 14, 1937 in Somerset, Kentucky. She married the late Donald Lee Calder on March 11, 1956. She was a graduate of Somerset High School.
She was employed at Cowden’s Sewing Factory and Corder’s Jewelry Store until she was blessed with motherhood in 1963. Margaret took pleasure in being a mother and housewife. She was acknowledged for the love she bestowed her family and immaculate housekeeping.
Margaret enjoyed traveling with her husband to horse shows, car shows and took pleasure in the antique cars he restored. Her grandson and great-grandchildren brought her an abundance of joy. They were the twinkle of her eye.
Most importantly, Margaret was a born-again Christian. Saved by God’s grace. She was a long-time member of Saline Baptist Church where she had the privilege of teaching Sunday School in her young adult life and singing in the choir. Margaret spent many hours reading the KJV Bible through each year.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband (Donald Lee Calder); one sister (Shirley May Bowling and Johnny); an infant brother (Robert Clayton Burns); four sisters-in-law (Polly Jane Burns, Brenda Burns, Irene Powers, Chestine Wall, Sandra Calder); three brothers-in-law (Russell Wall, Earl Rader and Charles V. Calder); one niece (Sherry Ann Bowling Edmon). Margaret was an honorary mother to a nephew, Ricky Bowling; and to her brothers, whom preceded her in death, Thomas C. Burns and Joseph Burns.
Margaret is survived by: Daughter, Cindy Jo (Michael) Smith; Grandson, Chad Lee (April) Williams; three Great-Granddaughters: Addison Chloe Williams, Kinley Dawn Williams, Anna Rose Williams; Bonus Family: Granddaughter, Dana Elaine Smith Ritchie; three Great-Grandsons: Jordan Tyler Ritchie, Andew Chase Ritchie, Michael Cole Ritchie; and one great-great granddaughter (Hazel); three sisters-in-law: Marilyn Burns, JoAnn Rader; one brother-in-law, Roger (Carol) Calder; Several other nieces and nephews that called her “Bobo”; Two very special friends that she dearly loved, Dr. Barry and Angela Dixon.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services to begin at 1:00 p.m. with Bro. Trevor Reynolds and Dr. Barry Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Southern Oaks Cemetery. Active Pallbearers: Trenton Reynolds, Doug Burns, Adam Dixon, Corey Dixon, Seth Dixon, and Jackie Glover. Honorary Pallbearer, Toby Burns, who could not be with us for services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saline Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with all arrangements.
