Ernest Lee Bach, Jr. (Sonny), age 80, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born September 26, 1944 to the late Ernest & Clella Bach in Cincinnati, OH. He was a Vietnam Veteran, 4th Infantry Division. Alongside with his late wife, he was the owner of Kis Photo.

Poppy was one of a kind; the kind of person who could make you laugh even when you were trying not to smile. He had a way of lightening the mood even in the hardest moments. He never liked to be the center of attention, but somehow, without trying, he always made everything better by being there.

He enjoyed sitting on his porch and welcoming visitors. All who knew him knew that they didn’t need to schedule a visit. They were always welcome to come by and share stories of the past and debate recent news. No matter the company, he made them feel like family.

He loved Kentucky basketball like it was a member of the family. If the refs made a bad call, you’d better believe the fake snowballs were flying at the TV. He made watching games fun, loud, exciting, and full of laughs.

Every time we left our grandparents’ house, he and Grandma would walk us outside and wave until our car was out of sight. It was their special way of saying we love you. Poppy always had one more thing to add: “Watch out for the Buckeyes!”

He enjoyed planting flowers; until the deer came along and tested his patience. Even then, he’d have a joke about it. That’s who he was. He saw the humor in everything.

He had his favorite pizza at Mellow Mushroom and the waiters most likely knew him by the nickname he gave Shiitake pizza. He made everyone around him feel like family; like they were part of the fun.

He never wanted people to worry about him. He told us to go live our lives while we’re young, to be happy, to take care of each other and not fuss over him. That’s the kind of love he gave: quiet, strong, and selfless.

Losing him so soon after Grandma feels like losing a part of the world we knew. Now they’re together again, still waving from the porch, still making each other laugh, still watching over us. He may be gone, but the love, the laughter, and the memories; that’s not going anywhere. We’ll keep waving. We’ll keep laughing. And we will always, always “Watch out for the Buckeyes.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Stevie Bach and Michael Bach; and his loving wife of 56 years, Anne Marie Bach. Left to cherish his memories are his two sons that he was very proud of, Chris (Jami) Bach and Jake (Teresa) Bach; five grandchildren, Sabryn (Jake) Hudson, Christian (Cameron) Bach, Caden Bach, Jaselyn Bach and Talara Marie Bach; one great grandchild, Wells Hudson; brother George Bach; and many cousins, nephews, and friends.

The family has chosen to celebrate his life privately.
