Levonia (Lou) Gifford Lane age 92, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life at Somerset Nursing and Rehab and ran into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
She was born and raised in Ashland, Kentucky, the daughter of Cecil and Marie Gifford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Lane, her son Edward Stephens, her siblings: Catherine, Betty, Lorraine, Geneva, Charles, Wanda, Mary, and Helen.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Paul Kretzer of Somerset; grandson Matt (Angela) Gute of Lexington, Ky; granddaughter Michelle (Mike) Kretzer -Reynolds of FL; great-granddaughters Malia (Ethan) Gute of Lexington and Alayna (Tanner) Gute of Nashville, TN; great-grandsons: Isaiah Gute and Noah Gute both of Lexington, one brother Roy Gifford of Ashland, Ky; along with several nieces, nephews and many friends who loved her like family.
Lou retired from the City of Ashland after 30 years of working as a deputy cashier for the water department. She was a member of Ashland Heights Wesleyan Church, having served as youth leader, teaching Sunday School, being on the church board, active in missionary work. She and her husband relocated to Somerset where she joined Somerset 1st Church of the Nazarene and continued to actively serve the Lord in many areas until her health prevented her to do so. Lou enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, reading and working in the church.
The family will forever be grateful to Somerset Nursing and Rehab for all the love and care they have shown and becoming like family. Thank you to Hospice for always being there for us and helping to make the transition easier.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026 from 1pm-3pm in the Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with a funeral service to begin at 3pm with Pastor Ben Johnson and Paul Kretzer officiating.
Lou had requested in lieu of flowers; donations be made to Somerset 1st Church of the Nazarene 120 Crawford Ave. Somerset, Ky 42501 in her memory to help carry on the work of sharing Jesus.
