Larry Eugene Dodson, age 84 of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Friday, September 11, 2026 at his home.

He was born on December 6, 1941 in Louisville, Kentucky, son of the late Eugene Shelton and Cora Ester Webb Dodson.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University and retired from the United States Coast Guard at the rank of Commander in 1997 after serving 30 years. He retired as a Lieutenant from the Louisville Metro Police Department (formerly Jefferson County Police) after serving as a narcotics officer for most of his tenure there. He also retired from the United States Attorney’s Office Western District of KY as a Law Enforcement Liaison. He was the founder of Street Heat, an Anti Drug Band, and a Freemason. Larry was of the Christian faith and enjoyed fishing, golfing, music, and being with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Bobby Dodson.  He is survived by his wife, Bernita Dodson; son, Michael (Kory) Dodson of Lexington; daughter, Kimberly (Glenn) Solberg of Bowling Green; brother, Bruce Dodson of Ohio; grandchildren, Christine (Jonathon) Curtis, Tyler (Elizabeth) Dodson, Brandon Dodson, Chase (Sydney) Solberg, Courtney (Carson) O’Daniel, Savannah Stauffer, and Owen Stauffer; and great-grandchildren, Olivia Curtis and Katherine Curtis.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at Southern Oaks Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Dillard officiating. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
