James “JD” Ernest Denney, 71, of Woodstock, Kentucky, passed from this life on Monday, August 3, 2026, at his home.
James was born on October 23, 1954, to the late William H. Denney and Charlene (Vaught) Denney.
James enjoyed classic cars, rock and roll music, fishing, and a good cup of coffee.
James proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was funny, hardworking, and cared deeply for his children and grandchildren. He was a devout Christian and a good man.
Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Shelton; his stepson, Matthew Chaney; his brother, William H. Denney Jr.; his sisters-in-law, Sandra Denney, Libby Acey, and Julie Chaney; his brother-in-law, Sherman Wesley; and his nephew, Kevin Molen.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joy Kathleen Denney; his sisters, Sharon (Mickey) Winter and Sandra (Bobby) Molen; his son, Joseph Denney; his daughters, Stephanie Garrison (John) and Ashley Wesley (Ethan); his sisters-in-law, Sandy Wesley and Nancy Chaney; and his brothers-in-law, Jackie Chaney and Michael Chaney.
He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren: Dylan, Destiny, Bryson, Haylee, Austin, McKenna, Samantha, Brooklyn, Matty, Mackenzie, William, Aaliyah, and James Aaron.
In addition, he is survived by three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who mourn his passing.

Visitation will be held on August 7th, from 12-2pm, funeral services to follow at 2pm with Bro. David Carr officiating. A graveside service will be held at Mill Springs Cemetery on Tuesday, August 11th at 10:00am, with full military honors from Post 38.
