Freddie Fields, age 83, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital following a brief illness.  
 
Freddie was born on December 24, 1942, in Pikeville, KY to the late Julian and Nellie (Adkins) Fields. He graduated from Feds Creek High School in May of 1961, and married Veda Gaye Reynolds on August 14, 1961. They were blessed with three children during their marriage. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. 
 
Freddie took pride in his work. He started work at the local A & P, where he swept floors and stocked shelves. He then worked for Whayne Supply Company for 42 years, where he started as a truck driver, was promoted to Parts Salesman, then promoted to heavy equipment Caterpillar salesman.  He enjoyed his work and made many friends throughout the years. 
 
Freddie was a wonderful Christian man, putting on Christ in baptism at the age of 62 years. He attended Mikes Branch Church of Christ in Pikeville, KY, Prestonsburg Church of Christ in Prestonsburg, KY, and most recently Cumberland Church of Christ in Somerset, KY.  He loved the Lord and loved his wonderful church family. 
 
Freddie had several hobbies, including fishing, reading Louis L’Amour books, gardening, baling hay, hiking, riding his bicycle, walking his dog (Baby), and working jigsaw puzzles.  
 
In addition to his wife, Veda Gaye, he is survived by his daughter MaDonna (Mitch) Compton of Somerset, KY; his son Julian (Noreen) Fields of Pikeville, KY; his daughter Sonia (Glenn) Proudfoot of Somerset, KY; a sister. Sherryl (Alan) Cooley of Jonesboro, AR; and a sister-in-law Eleanor Fields of Smithville, OH;  granddaughters, Hailey Fields and Abigail Langfels; great-grandchildren, Malachi and Ezra; and multiple nieces and nephews. 
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Leary; a brother Eugene Fields; a brother, Julian Thomas Fields. 
 
Visitation will be held at the Cumberland Church of Christ on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. His body will then be transferred to J W Call and Son Funeral Home in Pikeville where visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 5:00 PM for family, followed by 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM for friends. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 1:00 PM, officiated by Shawn Slone of Prestonsburg, KY and Alan Blackwell of Somerset, KY.  Pallbearers include Alan Cooley, Julian Fields, Mitch Compton, and Glenn Proudfoot. Burial will follow at Annie E Young Cemetery in Pikeville.
