Virgil Johnson, age 93, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Somerset Nursing and Rehab.
Virgil was born on December 9, 1932, to the late Isadore Johnson and Melissa Newsom Johnson Napier in the Hen Pen Branch of Melvin, Kentucky. 
He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed taking care of his lawn and garden; he was known for having the prettiest yard in his neighborhood and a bountiful garden. He was a skilled carpenter, building houses, and furniture. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was awarded The National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Along with his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Wilma Jean Cook Johnson, his son, Gregory Johnson, brothers: Sylvan Johnson, Gomer Johnson, Ira Johnson, Homer Johnson, LA Johnson, and James Napier Jr., sisters: Goldie Hall, Stella Griffith, Thelma Wells, and Versie Mansfield.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son Michael Johnson of Somerset; daughter Elizabeth Johnson of Fairfax, VA; sister Beulah Johnson, grandchildren: Heather, Crystal, Corey, Katherine, Joshua, and Gracie; along with four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him. 
There will be no services at this time. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Virgil Johnson
