David Edward Turpin, age 71, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. He was born in Somerset, Ky on August 19, 1954 to the late James (Jim) and Zella Tomlinson Turpin.
He proudly served his community beginning July 1988 at the Somerset Fire/EMS Department and retired as Captain in 2003. David also sold cars for many years. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed going to flea markets. His favorite pastime was playing pool at the VFW Mill Springs Post 269 and loved and valued the many friends he had there. They are all his honorary pallbearers. David was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burnside.
Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by his daughter, Brandice Michelle “Brandy” Turpin-Perkins and his grandson, Tayshawn Jordan Perkins, brothers: Timothy Turpin, Howard Junior Collins, James Wayne Collins, Harold Turpin, Gerald Turpin, James D. Turpin, sisters: Barbara Ann Collins, Margie Turpin, Betty Foster, Lisa Phelps.
David leaves behind his wife, Teresa, his faithful shih tzu Charlie, his daughters: Beth (Ralph) Klein, Brittany (Scott Denham) Hoskins, Briana (DeAndre Routt) Turpin, grandchildren: Sophia Hoskins, Brandon (Paige) Combs, E`zavion Doleman, D`ayion Doleman, Kehlani Routt, Alexis (Harold) Ledford, Michael Klein, Anthony Klein, Rebekah Soard, Linkyn Klein, many precious great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sister Juanita Wilkerson, brother Steve (Kathy) Turpin, in laws and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 11am at Southern Oaks Funeral Home, his Celebration of Life service will be held at 1pm at the funeral home with Bro. Rick Catron of First Baptist Church of Burnside officiating.
Burial will follow in Southern Oaks Cemetery.
