Lloyd Yanke, age 78, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025, in Lexington, Kentucky. Born on June 20, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, Lloyd lived a life marked by dedication—-to his family, his faith, and his country.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Lloyd served as a Sergeant from 1970 to 1974 during the Vietnam War. His time in the military reflected the same values that would define his entire life; courage, commitment, and an unwavering sense of duty.
After his military service, Lloyed channeled his work ethic into building a successful career. He owned and operated his own pool service business for many years. Known for going above and beyond anything he did, Lloyd was not only a hardworking entrepreneur but also a skilled problem solver and a devoted provider for his family.
Lloyd’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. A strong Christian man for over 45 years, he was a member of Potters Place Church in Somerset, Kentucky. His passion for sharing the Gospel knew no bounds. For more than three decades, he volunteered every Saturday teaching inmates in the California jail system—a ministry he never missed and one that touched countless lives.
Lloyd is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Yanke; daughters Jennifer Silva (James) of Somerset, Kentucky, and Amanda DeLisle of California; grandchildren Christopher James Yanke (Alyssa) of California, Nathaniel McNair, Tori DeLisle, Alexis Wunschel, Briseis Dickerson, Aiden Dickerson, Peyton Silva, Raelynn Silva, and Johnny Barrios; and great-granddaughters Jocelyn Yanke and Evelyn Yanke.
He was preceded in death by two sons—Eric Paul Yanke and Robert James Yanke of California—as well as by his adopted parents Lloyd Yanke and Margaret Smecko.
Lloyd left a lasting impression on everyone he met through his kindness, strength of character, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Until we meet again in Heaven.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Potters Place Church with Bro. Thomas Howard, Bro. Jim Harris and Bro. Randell Hubbard officiating.
Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Lloyd Yanke.
