Shirley Mae Godbey Shadoan, age 82 of the Beech Grove Community, passed from this life on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at her residence after her battle with cancer.
She was born on January 25, 1943 to Joshua and Pauline Randolph Godbey in Bethelridge, Kentucky at the home of her grandparents, Isaiah Clifton and Ella Catherine Irvine Godbey.
Shirley was a Christian and on her earlier years attended Beech Grove Church. She loved reading and working puzzles. She married James Lee Shadoan on March 16, 1960. They moved to Wyoming, Ohio for work and later retired and moved back to Kentucky to farm his family homeplace, the home of Joe and Irene Hall Shadoan. They loved horse shows, drag racing, and camping with their family. Jim and Shirley loved benefit singings, auctions, the flea market, Goodwill, county fairs, and cookouts with the family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Josh and Pauline Randolph Godbey; grandparents, Isaiah and Ella Catherine Irvine Godbey, Cyrus B. and Betty Warren Randolph; Father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Irene Hall Shadoan; a son, Timothy Allen and a daughter, Katherine Ann “Pebbles”, a brother, Lester “Peanut” Godbey, sister-in-law, Janet Godbey, brothers-in-laws, Ronnie and Mike Shadoan.
She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Lee Shadoan of Somerset and James Douglas Shadoan (Sandy Cooper) of Beech Grove. She also has five sisters, Helen Katherine of Ohio, Patricia Ann Clark of Argyle, Betty Rose (Junior) Kidd of Science Hill, Evelyn (Randell) Cox of Somerset and Charlotte (Bob) Duvall of Beech Grove; sister-in-law, Marlene Sworden, her best friend, Sharon Sanders; her fur baby, Foxy; five granddaughters, Toni Shadoan, Samantha (Cory) Godsey, Sydney Shadoan, Tiffany (Jeremiah) Wright and Jessica Shadoan; grandson, Mark Shadoan; step-grandsons, Brian McGowan and Anthony Davis; great-grandchildren, Conner Wright, Matthew Shadoan, Jazlynn Shadoan, Owen Godsey, and a bonus great-grandson, Kyson Stigall. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends that loved her and will miss her dearly.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025 in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home with Bro. Charles Eugene “Chuck” Godbey officiating. Burial will be in the Beech Grove Cemetery.
