Revel Ping, age 95, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
Revel was born on January 14, 1930 to the late Silas Ping and Eva Dykes Ping in Somerset, Kentucky.
He was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed his job as a State Trooper for the Louisville, Kentucky State Police. He proudly served his country for 20 plus years and retired from the United States Marine Corps. He was a spy in China and Russia and was an incredible patriot that loved his country. His passion was his comrades at the VFW on Barnesburg Road. He dedicated the land there.
Revel was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ping, his parents Silas and Eva Ping, sons: James Cambra Ping and Eric Lynn Ping, brothers: Ralph B. Ping, Roy C. Ping, Rawleigh E. Ping, Raymond Ping, Ray Ping, Ronal H. Ping, sisters: Bertha Ping Whitis, Ruth Albright, Regina Ping Craig.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son J.R. Sawyer (Gail) of Alvin, TX, daughter Angela Gately of Somerset, Ky; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025 from 10am to 12pm in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 12pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be: Robby Petrolino, Daniel Petrolino, Kevin Ping, Kylan Ping, J.R. Sawyer and Rodney Stevens.
Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Honor Guard Post #38.

You’ll always be our Papa Jim, married to our grandma Phyllis, who is now gone to be with the Lord also, and I am sure you are smiling at each other. We feel so honored to have been a part of your family, with your wit and smile, and sense of humor, David and I enjoyed seeing you when we came to KY when granny was still with us. We all love you Papa Jim.

You were the best stepfather. You were good to my children and family. I know you are happy to be with Jesus abd enjoying heaven. You will be missed. Love you
