Bro. Michael D. Hammond “Preacher”, age 76, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at his home.
Michael was born on September 12, 1948 to the late Warren Hammond and Beatrice Keith Hammond in Monticello, Kentucky.
He was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a minister on June 12, 1977 and pastored there. Also former pastor of New Hope Baptist Church and current Pastor of Dixie Bend United Baptist Church for 22 years. He accepted Christ as his savior at age 14. He enjoyed reading the Bible, witnessing to others and drove a dump truck for Mago’ Construction for 42 years.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Beatrice Hammond, daughters: Mary Hammond Bedwell, infant daughter, Regina Hammond, brother, Larry Hammond, great-grandchild, Whitley Schanbacher.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 59 years: Linda Hammond, sons: Richard Hammond and Mark Hammond both of Somerset; daughter, Beckie Taylor (Larry) of Eubank, Ky; brother, Leroy Hammond (Leta) and sister, Brenda Goodwin all of Monticello, Ky; grandchildren: Latosha Schanbacher (Tyler), Austin Hammond, Amber, Stacey, Tiffany, Johnna, John David Bedwell, Samuel Hammond and great-grandchild, Ralph Bedwell; also survived by special nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Our loss is truly heaven’s gain.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 4:30 to 8pm in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 11am at Cedar Hill Baptist Church with Bro Austin Hammond and Bro. Adam Evans officiating. He will be laid to rest in Cedar Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gideon Memorial Bible Fund.

I recently retired from Mago after 44 years. Preacher was a stable force in providing unquestionable loyalty to hauling materials, and always had a smile on his face and a kind word .
