John L. Buie, age 85, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
John was born on December 27, 1938 to the late James “J.D.” Buie and Mildred Irene Johnson Buie in Beech Creek, Kentucky.
He was a member of First Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Buie, his parents, James “J.D.” and Mildred Buie, son, Dwight Buie, daughter, Amy Susan Buie and brothers: Bill Buie and James Buie.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son, David Buie (Wendy) of Somerset, Ky and grandchildren: Whitney, Emily and Douglas.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 from 9am to 11am in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 11am with Bro. David Pendley officiating. Burial will follow in Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.
Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Honor Guard Post #38. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for John L. Buie.

I first met John in 1989 while he was an Engineer for Soil Conservation Service. John took the time to help me as a Technician. I will never forget that. To this day, I have examples that John gave me and still use them. John’s service and professionalism is greatly appreciated. Praying for the family of Mr. Buie.
