Billy Wayne Gaunce, age 79 of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Monday, September 2, 2024 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
He was born on June 17, 1945 in Frankfort, Kentucky, son of the late Bill and Clara Bell Fredley Gaunce. He was of the Baptist faith, a Veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Marksman from 1964 to 1967 and MP in the Vietnam War, a member of the American Legion Post #34 and a dedicated member of White Lily Volunteer Fire Dept. He enjoyed farming, car races, truck pulls, and working the horse show ring at the Lawrenceburg Fair and Horse Show. He loved spending time with his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bessie Kay Gaunce; infant son, Ellis Wayne Gaunce; brothers, Gene Gaunce and Larry Gaunce; and sisters, Martha Hines and Thelma Beeler.
He is survived by his daughters, Denise (Lynn) Downey of Lawrenceburg, and Charlene (Jeff) Taylor of Somerset; grandchildren, Maci Downey, Ali Downey, Nevaeh Taylor, Lukas (Alecia) Taylor; great-grandchildren, Raylee, Kinslie, Anslie and Huntley “Bub” Taylor; sisters, Connie Adams and Nancy Coleman, brothers, Jimmy Gaunce; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024 in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Lawrenceburg Cemetery with Bro. Robert Reynolds officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the cemetery until time for service. Pallbearers will be Scott Ledridge, Rusty Mounce, Luke Taylor, Connie Wayne Best, Steve Gaunce and Johnny Taylor.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
