Raymond Roy Hayes, age 93, of Somerset, Kentucky passed from this life on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
Raymond was born on July 1, 1931 to the late Robert Hayes and Nancy Bobbitt Hayes in Somerset, Kentucky.
He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He served as song leader, Sunday School class teacher and church clerk at Immanuel Baptist Church for many years. He served 4 years in the United States Navy on both the USS Intrepid and USS Shelton followed by 2 years in the Navy Reserve. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting and the outdoors.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nancy Hayes, brothers: Robert and William Bill Hayes and sister Thelma Herrin.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Florance Darleen Meece Hayes, whom he married on May 22, 1958 at Calvary Baptist Church; son, Marty Hayes (Hazel Wethington) of Liberty, Ky; daughters: Brook Patsey (John D.) of Barrington, IL and Daphne Perkins (Brian) of Science Hill, Ky; nieces: Nancy Ruth Herrin, Carol Fischer, Nelva Ann Herrin, grandchildren: Dustin Hayes (Jessica), Brennan Perkins and great-grandson, Jayden Hayes.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 from 6 to 8pm in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Visitation will continue on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 11am at Immanuel Baptist Church with a funeral service to begin at 12pm at the church with Bro. Ron Shepherd and Bro. Bill Meece officiating. Burial will follow in Mill Springs National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Brennan Perkins, Willard Worley, Chris Meece, Michael (Cobb) Webb, Mike Meece, Jerry Beasley and Bro. Bill Meece. Honorary pallbearers will be: Carl Mosley, Bruce Meece, John D. Patsey and Brian Perkins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund.
Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Honor Guard Post #38.
