Listen to the Obituary
Geraldine “Gerry” Sims Miller entered into her Heavenly home on Monday, August 5th, 2024 under the watchful care of her family and the staff at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center. She fought a valiant fight and kept her faith, but God, in His infinite wisdom, knew He needed her to “come Home”.
Gerry was born August 9th, 1939 in the community of Hazel Green, Kentucky in rural Laurel County to James Henry and Ethel Turner Sims; the sister of five siblings; Della Grace, Beatrice, Beulah, Rod and Paula.
Gerry was united in marriage to Jackie Curtis Miller on December 29th, 1958 in London, KY and was gifted with four children; Geraldine, Karen Elaine, Michelle Lee and Russell Curtis. Unequivocally, her greatest gift in life was her granddaughter, Jaden Brooke Jasper. However, as only Gerry could, she eagerly welcomed into her love and care her inherited grandchildren, Jameson Miller and Jacob McPherson. She was a member of Barnesburg Baptist Church.
While being a wife, mother and grandmother was her greatest blessing, she relished working alongside her “Jackie Boy” in every venture in life; as a cook at PCDC, a cook at Oakwood, a holiday worker at Rose’s Department Store and a counterpart at both the Lake Cumberland & London flea markets. In the words of so many, “Wherever you saw one, you saw the other.” Gerry’s gift was hospitability. She loved to cook and welcome people into her home. She loved everyone she met, and everyone she met loved her. Not a sweeter soul could ever be found on this side of Heaven.
Gerry was preceded in death by her most beloved husband Jack, her parents James Henry and Ethel Sims, her infant daughter Geraldine, her sisters Della Grace Pilkington, Beatrice Farris, Beulah Webb, brother Rod Sims, brothers-in-law, Roy Webb, Carl Farris, Dean Pilkington, sister-in-law Emma Sims and nephew David Sims. The number of other family members and friends that await her arrival is too many to name or count.
Gerry is survived by daughters Karen (& Doug) Miller of Somerset, Michelle Jasper (& Tony Hawk) of Somerset, son Russell Miller (& Kim McPherson) of Elizabethtown, sister Paula (& Emery) Miller of London, granddaughter Jaden Jasper of Somerset, and a host of nieces, and nephews.
Visitation for Geraldine “Gerry” Miller will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9th at Southern Oaks Funeral Home and again on Saturday, August 10th from 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Sinking Creek Baptist Church in London, KY. Services will follow at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday with Brother Todd Parker and Brother Billy Miller officiating. The internment will follow at Dunn Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her “Jackie Boy”.
Gerry personally requested that, in lieu of flowers, you please make a donation to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, the Ronald McDonald House of Lexington, KY or The Shriners Children’s Hospital in her memory. All three were very dear to her heart.
Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Geraldine “Gerry” Sims Miller.
She was the sweetest and kindest woman…I became a good good friends with her daughter, Karen in 1991 and soon loved her sister, Michelle, and Russell…I felt part of the family….Heaven got a angel!!
My thoughts and prayers go out to Michelle and her family. Gerry and Jack were long time friends of my mom and stepdad.
