Roy Willard Whitehead, age 76, left his earthly home surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born on September 4, 1947 to Coy and Mae Whitehead in Co-op, Kentucky.

He was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church. He retired from Dillion Transportation as a truck driver in 2011. He then went to work for JBC Electric and fully retired in 2020. When his health would allow him, he enjoyed spending time in his garage working on restoring classic cars. He also loved to be out four wheeling in the biggest mud hole he could find, which earned him the nickname “Wild Man” on the riding trails. He loved to camp with his family and sit outside to soak in the sun. More than anything, he loved spending time with his grandbabies and great- grandbabies, whom he loved all of them dearly.

Roy leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Hazel Phillips Whitehead, whom he married on July 26, 1965; three daughters: Beverly (Jerry) Burkett, Barbara (Rob) Smith an Brenda (Gary) Smith all of Somerset, Ky; seven grandchildren: Chasity (Denzel) Gregory, Joshua Sutton, Casey (Austin) Gregory, Samantha (Scotty) Stogsdill, Chelsey (Jacob) Lockard, Nathan (Ashtyn) Carter and Caleb Lyons; 9 great-grandchildren: Brayden, Chase, Macie, Weston, Khalessi, Cora, Madelyn, Nathalie, Oakley and Ruthie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Mae Whitehead, a brother, Dallas and a grandson, Seth and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 11am to 1pm in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 1pm with Bro. Dustin York officiating. Burial will follow in Southern Oaks Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Joshua Sutton, Nathan Carter, Caleb Lyons, Denzil Gregory, Jacob Lockard and Austin Gregory.
