She was born on March 22, 1953 in Somerset, Kentucky, daughter of the late Hubert and Ada Marie Johnson Gilmore.
She was a homemaker and of the Christian faith. She loved playing bingo, cards, and watching WWE wrestling, especially John Cena. She also enjoyed watching scary movies and law shows.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James Hay; one son, Quinston Pennington; and brothers, Danny Patterson, Hubert Jr Gilmore and Johnny Gilmore.
She is survived by sons, Floyd Cowan (Shannon) of Lexington and Antoine Cowan of Somerset; daughters, Ada Gilmore Harris of Lexington, Julie Cowan and Mary Cowan Gaines, both of Somerset; brothers, Fred Gilmore (Marsha) and George “Buddy” Johnson, both of Somerset; sisters, Minnie “Baba” Peyton and Rose “Susie” Slaughter, both of Somerset; 14 grandchildren, Shasmeka, Heather, Taevon, Christian, Andre, Gabe, Gabriell, Kisean, Na’Zari “Naz”, Quintin, Sophia, Aundreya, Aubreya and DannieBelle; 21 greatgrandchildren and a special grandson, Desmond “Desi” Chestnut.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Eric Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Southern Oaks Cemetery.
