John F. Hicks, age 94, of the Oak Hill Community, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Baptist Health in Lexington, KY surrounded by his loving family. He’s now reunited with his wife Earlene Brooks Hicks who passed away on April 27, 2019.

John was born on May 27, 1929 in Junction City, KY to the late Sherman Pearl Jr. and Lola Marie Waddle Hicks. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Buddy and Neil Hicks, one sister, Katherine Acey and his dear friend, Bro. J.S. New and his little Yorkie, Tinkerbell.

He is survived by his daughters Connie Hicks (Ernie) Hunt, Sheila Bubnick and her children Ameila and Austin and their families, and Jordan Hicks and her family. He is also survived by his sister, Sis Deaton and his brother-in-law, Doyle Brooks.

He was a member of Barnesburg Baptist Church. He often spoke of his faith and knew he would be with God one day.

John was in the Air Force and later in the Korean War. He was the Communication System Radio Operation and carried all big radios.

John not only was the life of the party, but he was a workaholic. He enjoyed UK Basketball and loved watching westerns too.

During his last years at Commonwealth Life Insurance, he was the Agency Manager making the Million Dollar Sales for several years. In the early years, he went door to door selling policies and collecting premiums.

After his years with insurance, he was involved in several funeral homes until he was a foundering member of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Richard New.

He has so many special friends, Richard New, Danny Patterson, Scott Morrison, Paul Hoffman, Linda Tucker, Sandy Bray, Polly and David Rose and Brenda Gardner.

For the last ten months of his life, he lived with his daughter Connie and son-in-law Ernie in Lawrenceburg, KY. John loved eating out, running around and had so much fun doing so. He also attended a painting class. While there, he attended LUMC where Pastor Rodney Stewart-Wilcox made him feel right at home. He will be missed by his family and friends. But with God, I know we will see him again.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Jordan Burks officiating.

Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
