Opal Whitaker, age 96, of Somerset, Kentucky passed from this life on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at Jean Waddle Care Center.
Opal was born on September 7, 1927 to the late Jeremiah Smith and Cora Mize Smith in Stab, Kentucky.
She was a member of Pleasant Run Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, but retired from Palm Beach where she worked for 39 ½ years. She enjoyed canning, gardening, making quilts, crafts, flowers, making peanut brittle, nature and spending time with her family.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Whitaker, parents, Jeremiah and Cora Smith, son, Denny Adams, brothers: Delma, Vola, Lewis, Riley, Edwin and Edgar Smith, sisters: Melvina Inabnitt, Zula Mayfield, Lottie Phelps and Beulah Smith.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Kenneth Adams (Barbara), daughter, Linda Howard (Jeff) all of Somerset, Ky; special daughter in law, Shelia Adams of Somerset; along with 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 11am to 1pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 1pm with Bro. David Dykes officiating. Burial will follow in Short Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Short Creek Cemetery Fund. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Opal Whitaker.
Linda and Kenny, I am so sorry. We would like to hold on to them forever but we simply cannot. We enjoy and love them for the time we have and then we hold on to the memories.
