William “Jockey’ Mayfield, age 93 of the Slate Branch Community in Somerset, passed from this life on Monday, March 1, 2021 at Somerwoods Nursing and Rehab.
He was born on November 26, 1927, son of the late Willie and Bertha Dalton Mayfield. He was the owner and operator of Mayfield Garage in the Slate Branch Community. He liked race cars, mowing, painting cars and doing mechanic work. He cherished his family and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Joyce Ann Mayfield whom he married on October 11, 1947 in Somerset, Kentucky; six sisters, Rhoda Girdler, Oneida York, Maggie Floyd, Jewell Gossett, Wilda Tucker, and Ruth Thompson; and two infant sisters.
He is survived by four sons, Denver (Odena) Mayfield of Slate Branch, Marshall (Stephanie) Mayfield of Somerset, Fredrick E (Lana) Mayfield of Somerset, and Troy (Denise) Mayfield of Somerset; two daughters, JoAnn Lovell of Science Hill, and Rita Erp of Somerset; one sister Mildred (Robert) Tucker of Ohio; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Lakeside Memorial Gardens with Bro. Mike Erp officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital.
Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for William “Jockey” Mayfield.
