Marvin W. Lewis Jr., age 69, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born on November 11, 1948 in Dione, Kentucky, son of the late Marvin W. Sr. and Martha Joseph Lewis.

Marvin was a Veteran of the United States Army where he won a Sharp Shooter Award during basic training. He served in Germany doing psychological screenings, at the end of his tour he was selected to be part of the National Honor Guard. He was a graduate of Cumberland High School and Cumberland College and did graduate work at Lincoln Memorial University.  He was a retired counselor and business owner. During his lifetime he had attended several churches, but the church he attended as a child, Dione Missionary Baptist, it was the one he referred to as the home church.  He was the greatest granddad to his granddaughters and he will be sorely missed by them and everyone that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin Sr. and Martha Joseph Lewis, grandparents, Boone and Octavia Creech Lewis and Johnny and Matilda Boggs Joseph.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Sondra Judy Lewis, one son Travis (and Heather) Lewis of Nicholasville, KY, one daughter Dr. Rachel (and Dr. Tommy) Shelton of Somerset, one brother Boone (and Elizabeth) Lewis of Smith, KY, two sisters Ruth Lewis and Wanda Lewis both of Dione, KY, four grandchildren Savanah, Erika, Audrey and Isabella, one nephew; Rev. Johnny Lewis; one uncle; Dillard Joseph, a lifelong friend Joe Depew and other  nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marvin was a Christian, accepting Christ later in life. His favorite scripture was Psalms 23. He loved sitting on the deck at the lake house overlooking Lake Cumberland with granddaughter Bella. In younger years he loved boating and fishing and was a gifted musician.

Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 2018 in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with funeral service at 12:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home with Bro. Bruce Dixon officiating.

Interment will follow at Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Full Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
