Ronald E. Allen, son of the late Nadine and Barton (Clell) Allen, was born in Tracy, California on July 30, 1943. He departed this life on February 18, 2017 in Somerset, KY at the age of 73.

He started his life with notoriety, as he was the biggest baby born at the county hospital, 13 lbs and 15 oz. His family talked about that all of his life. He went on to be his 4th grade marble champ, and then lettered in four sports in high school. His hard work in sports earned him the Athlete of the Year blanket, given each year by his high school. He went on to play sports as a young adult, and his teams achieved many championships.

He went to work for Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA at the tender age of 18, and he stayed for 35 years, at which time he retired to raise his young son, and spoil his wife. Early in his time at Sandia, Ron was drafted into the Army, and spent two years in service in Vietnam and Okinowa.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Gayle, one brother, Johnny (and Barbara) of Colorado, one daughter, Karrie King of CA, and one son, Taylor Allen, serving in the U.S. Navy; one uncle and aunt, Lawrence (and Wanda) of CA, one sister-in-law, Judy, of CA, niece Mary of CA, three nephews, Tom (Rene), Tim (Chrissy) and Scott (Gina) all of CA; three cousins, Cheryl (Ron) Reich, Nelda Cardoza, both of CA and Alanna (Blackie) of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother, Jimmie, and several aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held in April 2017.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
