John Basil Lane, age 70, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Friday, December 30, 2016, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.
John was born on November 13, 1946, in Fairfield, Ohio, son of the late Eldo and Dorothy (Farren) Lane. He was a Vietnam War Veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army. John worked for the RCA Company, in Marion, Indiana, for forty-eight years as an electrician and maintenance man. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling and “RV-ing”. John enjoyed his pets and spending time with his family. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. (Jones) Lane, whom he married on July 13, 1996, in Gas City, Indiana; a daughter, Shannon Seideman, of San Francisco, California; his brother, Scott Lane, of Kokomo, Indiana; his sister, Sandra Lane, of Gas City, Indiana; two nieces, Melissa (and Tricia) Beckley, of Hartford, City, Indiana, and Chelsea Snodgrass (and Jordan Skeans), of Warsaw, Indiana; and his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, January 2, 2017, after 5:00 p.m., in the Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel with Bro. David Muse officiating.
Burial will be in the Mill Springs National Cemetery, in Nancy, Kentucky, on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Military Honors at graveside on Tuesday, will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or to the Pulaski County Animal Shelter.

We are so incredibly sad to hear of John’s passing. We had tried unsuccessfully to locate him in recent months. Our oldest son, John Robert (Rob) was named after John and another close family friend, “Johnny” who died at an early age. Our deepest condolences to you Mary, and all of John’s family. Prayers for peace and comfort.
