Gene Ladd, age 86, of Somerset, passed from this life on Friday, September 2, 2016, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.
Gene was born in Goodland, Indiana, on November 29, 1929, son of the late Everett and Deloris West Ladd. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Korean War. Gene married Jewell Burton on March 14, 1953, in Watseka, Illinois. After his retirement from radio condenser manufacturing management, Gene continued to work in management with McDonald’s Restaurants and worked fourteen years with Wal-Mart. Gene was a member of the American Legion Post #38 and served on the Honor Guard. He was an active member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church, where he enjoyed playing the drums in the church choir. Through the years, Glenn was a member of several quartets, including The Counselors Quartet. He enjoyed woodworking, especially building birdhouses.
He is survived by his wife, Jewell; his son, Larry (and wife, Julie) Ladd, of Watseka, Illinois; his daughters, Gail Peters, of Watseka, Illinois, and Myrna (and husband, Jerry) Walkoviak, of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding Gene in death are his parents; and his son, David Ladd.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, after 6:00 p.m., in Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at 12:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Donavon Burton and Bro. Marvin Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery. Gene’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
