Vola Ray Dowell, age 66, of Tateville, passed from this life on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at his home.
Vola was born on July 6, 1950, in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, son of the late Ola and Lona Bell Dowell. He married Pam Prosser, in Byrdstown, Tennessee, on October 30, 1969. He worked as a logger for many years. Vola enjoyed hard work and loved to spend time with his family. He was of the Holiness faith.
Vola is survived by his wife, Pam; his son, Volie, Jr. (and Tonya) Dowell, of Tateville; his daughter, Elizabeth (and Earl) Wolsey, of Somerset; his brothers, Carl “Bud” (and Sharon) Dowell, Darrell (and Carolyn) Dowell, and Paul (and Linda) Dowell, all of Tateville; his sisters, Judy (and Gary) Cox and Nancy Dowell, both of Tateville; his grandchildren, Whitnie Wolsey, Bobbi Jo (and Cody) Strunk, and Cooter (and Tory) Dowell; his great-grandchildren, Hunter Dowell, Gracie Dowell, Kalli-Jo Dowell, Caitlin Strunk and Chloe Strunk; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his caretakers, who were like family, Tonya, Linda and Donna.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles Dowell; sister-in-law, Sue Strunk Dowell; and his sister, Shirley Dowell.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 27, 2016, after 5:00 p.m., in Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be Sunday, August 28, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Raymond Bell and Bro. Garner Bell officiating. Burial will be in the Montana Lane Cemetery, in Tateville.
