Herbert McPheron, age 85, of Woodstock, passed from this life on Friday, June 24, 2016, at his residence.
Herbert was born on September 10, 1930, in Pulaski County, son of the late John Anderson and Laverna Lovins McPheron. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army, and was a Purple Heart recipient. Herbert was a master landscaper and sheet metal fabricator. Herbert was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed cars, collecting and trading knives, playing the guitar and banjo and singing. Herbert greatly enjoyed his time spent with his family and friends, and his dogs. He was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Emma Miracle McPheron; his sons, Rev. John (and Teresa) McPheron, of Rogersville, Tennessee, Rev. Randy (and Lisa) McPheron, of Mt. Vernon, and James (and Kim) McPheron, of Eubank; his daughters, Linda (and Ronnie) Adams and Betsy (and Bruce) Hopkins, both of Brodhead; his daughter-in-law, Sheila Oldham McPheron, of Monticello; his sister, Bessie Brock, of Covington; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Herbert in death are his parents; his first wife, Viola Reynolds McPheron; his son, Larry Wayne McPheron; his brothers, Turner McPheron, Thurman McPheron, Ed McPheron and Robert McPheron; and his sisters, Ivory Thompson, Lily Estes, Lola Jones, Jeanette Denney, Melvina McPheron and Ruth Etta McPheron.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 26, 2016, after 5:00 p.m., at Freedom Baptist Church, in Mt. Vernon.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 27, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at Freedom Baptist Church, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until time for funeral services. Rev. John McPheron, Rev. Randy McPheron and Rev. Johnny Adamson will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Freedom Church Cemetery.
