Fred Franklin Johnson, age 76, of Somerset, passed from this life on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at his home.

Fred was born in Evarts, on August 22, 1939, son of the late Dillard and Eva Durham Johnson. He was a veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army. Fred worked for years managing steel factories. After retiring from the factories, he worked as a farm caretaker and partnered in his own construction company. Fred was the family “go-to” person for problem solving. He was a man of a giving heart and of no selfish nature. Fred was a Christian man.

He is survived by his children, Jennifer Johnson, of North Carolina, and twins, Robert William Johnson, residing in China, and Laura Ann Johnson, of Cleveland, Ohio; his brother, B.R. “Johnny” (and Shirley) Johnson, of Helenwood, Tennessee; his sisters, Inez (and Dave) Peters, Betty (and Ed) Sizemore, Madge (and Sterling) Sizemore, and Gail Simpson, all of Somerset; and many nieces and nephews.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Rolley Madden and Silas Presley; and his sisters, Thelma Freeman, Juanita Napier, Edith Witt and Geraldine Enix.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at 12:00 noon, in Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will follow the visitation, on Wednesday, at 1:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Bro. B.R. “Johnny” Johnson and Bro. Justin Sizemore officiating.

Burial will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery.
