Wilma “Ruth” Ritchie, age 79, of Somerset, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at her residence.

Ruth was born on September 14, 1936, in Plymouth, Illinois, the daughter of the late Ernest Lee and Mable Mona Barker Myers. She married James Edward Ritchie, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on December 2, 1955. She was a faithful, dutiful wife. They had five children from their union.

Ruth had spent many years in mission work; she worked in the Grace Baptist Church Christian School, of Sulphur, Louisiana, she was a Sunday School teacher for Children’s Church at the Calvary Baptist Church, in Sulphur, then volunteered at the Temple Christian Academy, of Somerset. She was a member of East Somerset Baptist Church in Somerset, at the time of her passing. Ruth enjoyed reading and was an avid UK Basketball fan. She enjoyed flying with her husband, James, while he was a bush pilot, in Alaska.

She is survived by her husband of nearly sixty years, James; their sons, Philip Allan (and Erica) Ritchie, and Stephen “Andy” (and Michelle) Ritchie, both of Sulphur, Louisiana; their daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” (and Mike) Chandler, of Somerset, and Dawn Michelle (and Rick) Hansen, of Starkville, Mississippi; two brothers, William Fred (and Carol), of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Donnie Joe, of Shelby, Tennessee; her sisters, Ilean Jones, of Jay, Oklahoma, Coretta (and Larry) Suratt, of New Mexico, Alta Tinder, of Iowa, Alice, of Missouri and Patsy Sue, of Illinois; twelve grandchildren, Jessica Dawn Coffey, Eric Douglas Coffey, Whitney Danielle Coffey, Joshua Michael Chandler, Jacob Ray Chandler, Tabitha Sharon Jackson, James Robert Foster, Keyanna Marie Ritchie, Kaiden Philip Ritchie, Kylie Michelle Fuselier, Kiefer Makee Fuselier and Stephen Andrew Ritchie, II; and five great-grandchildren, Avery Jaylynn Danielle Coffey, Milyah Lizeth Nolan, Kyla Jade Jackson and Kodiak Rush Foster.

Preceding Ruth in death are her parents; her son, Jimbo Ritchie, Jr.; her brothers, Gene, Kenny, Ernie, Bobby Dean and Wayne Myers; her sisters, Iris Seaton, Nora-Lea Powell and Virginia Myers; and her step-brothers, Louie and Berlin Dunn.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2015, after 6:00 p.m., at East Somerset Baptist Church, of Somerset.

Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at East Somerset Baptist Church with Bro. Darvie Fenison officiating.

Interment will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be De’Angelo Durham, Dustin Fenison, Mike
Dunham, Larry Tucker, Bob Carson and Steve Butcher.
