Nila Lynn Mayfield age 76, of Somerset, passed away on Friday October 9, 2015 at Golden Years Nursing Home in Monticello.

She was born on April 28, 1939 in Jabez, to the late Harold Clay and Elsie Marie Walters Tompkins.

Nila was of the Baptist faith and was a homemaker. Her gift was cooking. It was almost magical the way she could put a meal together. She always enjoyed the holidays. Sitting at her table, you always knew you would have some of the best homemade southern meals.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Clay and Elsie Marie Tompkins; her husband, Wayburn Mayfield, whom she married sixty-one years ago on March 3, 1954 in Rossville, Georgia; one brother, Dune Tompkins and one sister, Karon Tompkins.

She is survived by three children, Sherry Smith (Darrell), Kevin Mayfield and Tim Mayfield; her grandchildren, Tracey Lackey (Wes), Michelle Davis (Eric), Amber Cox, Autumn Lawson (Brandon), Megan Davis (Shaun), Tiffany Dishman (Ronnie), Alan Dobbs (Kim) and Raven Mayfield. Great-grandchildren, Josh Dishman, Madison Davis, Dean Davis, Jacob Centers, Shaylee Dishman, Sara Davis, Simon Lackey, Kayleigh Cox, Elijah Cox, Jackson Lawson, Macy Dishman, Abri Dobbs, Colton Dishman and Hunter Dishman. She is also survived by two sisters, Betty Crouch of Hewitt, Texas, and Cindy Boone of Louisville.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday October 14, 2015 after 12pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday October 14, 2015 at 1pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Richard D. New officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery.
