Raymond Meece, age 79, of Monticello, KY., passed away on Sunday December 28, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY.
He was born on October 11, 1935 in Meece, KY to the late William Elmer and Dora Sears Meece.
Raymond was a former owner and operator of RJ Meece Groceries of the Colo Community. He was of Baptist Faith and enjoyed watching sports, fishing, woodworking, and carpentry.
He is preceded in death by his parents; William and Dora Meece, three brothers; William Elmer Meece Jr., Charles Edward Meece and William Dewey Meece, and two sisters; Edna Meece and Nannie Lee Meece.
He survived by his wife; Darlene Joan Pandorf Meece of whom he married on January 9, 1965 in Cincinnati, OH., two sons; Eric William Meece of Monticello, KY. and Raymond Meece II of Monticello, KY., one daughter; Carol (William) Whitson of the Frazier Community, four brothers; John Clinton Meece of Florida, Gordon Howard Meece of Florida, Ronald Wendell (Jane) Meece of Science Hill, KY., and Clifford Daniel Meece of the White Lily Community, four sisters; Evalene Meece Phelps of Florence, KY., Loretha C. Meece Colyer of White Lily, KY., Helen Elnora Meece of Ruth, KY., and Iva Dean Meece (Gordon) Dykes of Cincinnati, OH. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; Rema Momberg, Melissa Watson, Charles Whitson, Michael Gregory, Schuyler Whitson, Cyndell Ramsey, Will Watson, Robert Momberg, Emma Momberg, Chloe Gregory, and Aiden Whitson.
Visitation will be held on Friday January 2, 2015 after 11am in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday January 2, 2015 at 1pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Meece and Bro. Paul Tillett officiating.
Pall Bearers will include: Raymond Meece II, Eric Meece, Michael Gregory, Charles Whitson, Anthony Rowland, Joshua Rowland, and Clifford Meece.
Burial will follow in Mill Springs National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion Post# 38 Honor Guard in C/O Southern Oaks Funeral Home 2110 West Hwy 914 Somerset, KY 42503.
