Sterling Boyd Tucker was the second of seven children born to Cordus and Zelma (Keith) Tucker in Frazer, Kentucky on November 1, 1933.
He grew up on a farm in Kidder, Kentucky where his parents also owned and operated the local general store and post office. Growing up he learned the importance of hard work, discipline, and honesty which he carried with him throughout his life. He became a member of Liberty Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized in Kidder Creek. He served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant in the US Army. Afterwards, he moved to Ohio with his family where he ventured forth into several businesses with the eagerness and enthusiasm that was a natural part of him. After retiring from the Standard Oil Company of Ohio he decided to return home to the place he loved best, back to Somerset, Kentucky where he finished out his life. He died peacefully at the VA Medical Center in Lexington on October 12, 2014 being 80 years of age, with his daughter at his side.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers, James Ray, Willard and Boyce, his parents Cordus and Zelma, a grandson Jaden, and a brother-in-law James Morrow.
He was a kind, generous and self-sacrificing person who spent a huge part of his life helping others. He was very much loved and will be painfully missed by his friends and family. He leaves to cherish his memories Barbara Tucker, his companion for twenty years, and Cedric Roy, grandson who he raised as his own son, both from Somerset; a daughter Beverly McMullen and granddaughter Kimberly Hahn from Vermillion, Ohio; a granddaughter Angela and great-granddaughter Ava DiFilippo from Amherst, Ohio; a son Jason Tucker from Richmond, Kentucky, sister Virgie Morrow from Eubank, Kentucky; sister Janice (Doug) Willoughby from Lexington, Kentucky; and brother Fred (Audreen) Tucker from Somerset, Kentucky and Vero Beach, Florida.
