Betty Nelson, age 75 of Somerset, KY passed away on Tuesday May 6, 2014 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.
She was born on May 11, 1938 in Selinsgrove, PA to the late Oscar and Betty Schwemm Lindig.
Betty was of the Lutheran Faith. She was a United States Marine Corps Veteran and was a dedicated employee for University of Kentucky and KCTCS. She retired after forty years of service with the Somerset Community College where she served in several rolls at the college, with her last position being the Assistant Registrar. She also served on a number of college committees throughout the years which included, Nature Trail Committee, Safety Committee, Standards of Academic Progress Committee, a long standing member of the KACRAO, a volunteer with the American Heart Association and American Diabetes, a Veterans Day Speaker for the college, and a number of others.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Wallace “Wally” Nelson. One son, Wallace Reed Nelson, Jr. One daughter, Romaine (Jerry) Streeval. Two sisters, Peggy Ann (Vern) Inch and Pam Buchanan. Eight grandchildren, Jesse, Jerry Jr., Randall, Joshua, Crystal, Rachel, Samuel and Justice. Five great-grandchildren. Also survived by a host of special friends at KCTCS.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday May 10, 2014 from 4pm to 7pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Visitors are invited to speak on Betty’s behalf during the service.
