James Owens Clemons, age 79 of Somerset, KY passed away on Monday February 17, 2014.

He was born on January 3, 1935. He was the son of the late Barlow and Carrie Clemons of Jackson, KY.

Mr. Clemons was a graduate of Lees Junior College at Jackson, KY and Eastern Kentucky University at Richmond, KY. He was a former elementary school teacher and principal in Ohio and also taught at Science Hill. He was a member of the United States Air force. He was also a member of Sievers Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed Kentucky football, basketball, golfing and fishing. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by five siblings, Willard Clemons of Jackson, KY; William Barlow Jr. of Jackson, KY; Dora Holbrook of Jackson, KY; Oddis Clemons (Kay) of Connersville, IN and E.B. Clemons (Adna) of Somerset, KY. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, a good friend, Barbara Shepherd of Somerset, KY, and two very long-time special people, David and Eunice Sayers of Science Hill, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Barlow and Carrie Clemons of Jackson, KY; three sisters, Margaret Clemons Gross of Hartford City, IN and two infant sisters, Eula-Jean Clemons and Dorothy Lee Clemons. One brother, Thomas Lloyd Clemons of Montgomery, Alabama. One brother-in-law, Leonidas Holbrook of Jackson, KY, and one sister-in-law, Naomi (Arrowood) Clemons, of Jackson, KY.

Visitation will be held on Thursday February 20, 2014 from 11am until 1pm at the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will follow at 1pm with Bro. Edd Massey from First Baptist Church of Science Hill officiating.

Masonic Services will be conducted by the Sievers Lodge #491.

Burial will be at Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, KY with full Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
