Violet Sandlin Hodge Gilliam was born in Owsley Co. KY April 5, 1936. The daughter of the late Ezell and Sadie Wilder Sandlin.
Violet was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Somerset, KY and enjoyed donating her time to cleaning and servicing the Kingdom Hall. She never met a stranger and enjoyed preaching the good news, gardening and canning.

She passed away January 24, 2014 reaching the age of 77 years. She was united in marriage to Earnest Lue Ray Hodge on December 7, 1957, who preceded her in death. To this union two children were born, Earnest James Hodge and his wife Joyce of Monticello, KY and Rhonda Sue Haste and her husband Luke of Somerset, KY.

Violet is survived by her husband Harold Lloyd Gilliam, whom she married on April 13, 1996. Also surviving are her five grandchildren, Eric Hodge and wife Kristin, Stephanie Haste, Marty Haste and wife Laura, Christopher Haste and Angela Haste. Eight great-grandchildren, Harley, Bailey and Shooter Hodge, David, Matthew, Renae, Barbara and Nevaeh Haste. One brother, Berdette (Von)Sandlin of Indiana. Three sisters, Doris (Hance) Marshall of Booneville, KY, Irene (Junior) Lewis of Booneville, KY and Brenda (Ron) Phillips of Columbus, OH. Step-brother, Bill Day of Cinn. OH and step-sister, Helen Lundie of Cinn. OH.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, Oliver and Wendall Sandlin. Step-brother, Raymond Day and two infant sisters, Nancy and Corie Sandlin. Step-mother, Susie Sandlin.
Violet was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1967.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 29, 2014 after 5pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday January 30, 2014 at 12pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Speaker Ken Schmidheiser officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 740 Monticello St., Somerset, KY 42501.
