John E. Brooks, age 85 of Somerset, KY passed away on Friday November 29, 2013 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born on February 19, 1928 in Ingram, KY to the late Gillus and Abbie Green Brooks.
John was a retired electrician and a member of the Centennial Baptist Church in Ingram, KY. He enjoyed raising his cattle and farming and enjoyed his time with his family and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents. One son, Gary Brooks. One brother, Jack Brooks. One sister, Georgia Slugher and one grandchild.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Verla Fuson Brooks whom he married on June 10, 1946 in Ingram, KY. Five sons, James Estil (Treva) Brooks of Barboursville, KY., John Larry (Phyllis) Brooks of Pineville, KY., Tony (Charlotte) Brooks of Science Hill, KY., Timothy (Robin) Brooks of the Oak Hill Community, Somerset, KY. and Bro. Teddy (Regina) Brooks of Somerset, KY. One daughter, Saundra Mays of Somerset, Ky. Two sisters, Jewell (Billy Ray) Carroll of Harrogate, TN and Billie Owens of Harrogate, TN. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 3, 2013 after 12pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday December 3, 2013 at 2pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Teddy Brooks officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
