Glenda McQueen, age 76 of Somerset, KY passed away Tuesday November 5, 2013. She was born on May 20, 1937 in Somerset, KY. to the late John Benjamin and Bernetta Brewster Girdler. Glenda was saved by the Grace of God at Slate Branch Baptist Church and belongs to Denham Street Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband Jackie W. McQueen, whom she married on October 16, 1965 in Wartburg, TN. and three children, Bev and (Jim) Mitchell and Tina Baker, all of Somerset, KY and Rick and (Judy) Stringer of Nancy, KY. Nine grandchildren, Jaye Mitchell, Jeremy Mitchell, Erica and (Jason) Denney, Melissa Alexander, Becky Stringer, Jane and (Brad) Wiles, Nicole and (Maurice) Powers all from Somerset, KY, Shane and (Jessica) Wilson from Smithfield, KY. Jamie and (Jill) Baker from Mauston,Wisconsin. Two step- grandchildren, Adam (Maranda) Brown, and Serena Cundiff.
Thirtyone great grandchildren, five step- great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. One sister, Lucille (Lawerence) Rainwater Boswell, Indiana and lots of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents Bernetta and John Girdler, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Sherry Lynn Stringer and Kathy Lynn Baer. One great grandchild, Jordan Powers. Four sisters, Martha Girdler, Dortha Smith, Sue Walker, and Eva Mae Bullock, three brothers, Ben Girdler, Robert Girdler, and Eugene Girdler. One half brother, Olno Girdler and one son-in-law, Mike Baker.
Visitation will be held Thursday November 7, 2013 after 6pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Friday November 8, 2013 at 11am in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Griffith and Bro. David Muse officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Girdler, Mark Alexander, Jaye Mitchell, Jeremy Mitchell, Shane Wilson, Dewayne Walker, Mike Baker II and Brayden Mitchell. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Denham Street Baptist Church Building Fund, 400 Denham St., Somerset, KY 42501. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
