Mr. James Norman “Jimmy” Poynter age 55 of the Slate Branch  community passed away Saturday morning at his home.

James is survived by his wife of 34 years, Phyllis Troxtle Poynter whom he married on September 13th, 1977. From this union they were blessed with a daughter, Kristy Lynne Poynter Taylor and her husband Jody. The highlight of his life, a grandson, Jayden Hunter Taylor who enjoyed doing everything together with “Poppy,” camping, fishing, and most of all riding on Poppy’s Rhino ATV.

James is also survived by a step granddaughter, Kylie Taylor one brother, Tim and wife Sherri Poynter, one sister Wanda and husband James Large all of Somerset.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Jean Walker Poynter and one sister, Dana Poynter.

James proudly served 12 years in the National Guard, he attained his plumbers license and previously worked at Epperson Electric,, Inner City Trades and Cumberland Wood and Chair. James was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting throughout his life.

James had 2 special girls that he loved dearly, his dogs, Ripley and Shelby.

James was of the Presbyterian Faith.

Visitation for James will be Monday May 21, 2012 after 6PM at Southern Oaks Funeral Home and funeral services will be Tuesday May 22, 2012 at 11AM at the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Brummett officiating.

Burial will be Tuesday at 2 PM at the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
