James Robert Gibson, age 77, of Burnside, KY., passed away on Sunday June 14, 2015 at his residence.
He was born on February 5, 1938 in Burnside, KY., to the late Marvin Bishop and Pearl Davis Gibson.
He was a retired Carpenter from Woodson Bend Resort, was a member of First Baptist Church of Burnside, KY and served two terms on the Burnside City Council. He enjoyed gardening, watching UK Basketball, working to help his neighbors, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by the Burnside Community.
James was preceded in death by his parents; Marvin and Pearl Gibson, two brothers; Marvin Gibson Jr. and George “Peanut” Gibson, one sister; Helen Jones, and one brother-in-law; Ralph Jones.
He is survived by his wife; Sharon, one son; James Robert Jr. (and Amanda) Gibson of Richmond, KY., one daughter; Carol Griffin of Burnside, KY., two brothers; Arvel Lee (and Lena Mae) Gibson of Burnside, KY. and Jerry (and Linda) Gibson of Ferguson, KY., one sister-in-law; Ruby Gibson, four grandchildren; Meagan (and Tim) Raymer, Aaron (and Layla) Padgett, Austin Griffin, and Xavier Gibson, and two great-grandchildren; Atticus Raymer and Gaius Raymer.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 17, 2015 after 5pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 2pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Christian and Dr. Jay Padgett officiating.
Burial will follow in Burnside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church in Burnside, KY.
