Earline Rose Patton passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She leaves behind her husband, Rodney; daughter, Melanie (Greg) Raleigh; grandchildren, April and Michael Raleigh; sister, Erma Rose; and special friend, Vicki Fackler. Preceding Earline in death were her parents, Bill and Dorothy Rose.

Born August 18, 1940, in La Cygne, Kansas, Earline was a graduate of La Cygne High School. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in secondary education and Master of Arts in history from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. She earned post-graduate credits from the University of Kentucky.

Earline and Rodney, moved to London, KY in 1967, where both taught at Sue Bennett College. In later years at Sue Bennett, Earline was the senior member of the faculty and Chair of the Social Sciences Division. She had a special interest in mentoring non-traditional students. Retiring to Somerset, she was employed by Somerset Community College as a transfer counselor in Student Support Services, and later as a history and family studies instructor at the McCreary Center.

Earline was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Somerset where she was an Elder, active in the Handbell Choir, and belonged to the Women’s Sunday School Class, which she occasionally taught. She enjoyed traveling (48 of the 50 states and Canada), doing jig-saw puzzles, and caring for Moses and Sheba, her cats.

A celebration of Earline’s life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 13 at 1:00pm with Rev. Allen Brimer officiating. Honorary pall bearers are Jane Evans, Carol Henderson, and members of the Women’s Sunday School Class. A private Committal Service will be held on Saturday at Southern Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Capital Campaign Fund of the First Presbyterian Church of Somerset or the American Cancer Society.
