David Franklin “Bud” Slagle, age 80 of Somerset, KY passed away on Friday February 13, 2015 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
He was born on August 23, 1934 in Bristol, TN to the late Beverly and Gladys Thomas Slagle.
He was a member of Slate Branch Baptist Church and served on the Building Committee and was also an Usher there. He retired from the United States Air Force after serving 20 years, graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Masters Degree in Special Education and taught at Somerset High School. He also worked for Lowe’s after retirement. He enjoyed watching Tennessee Football, playing golf, bowling, traveling, and loved his family.
David is preceded in death by his parents; Beverly and Gladys Slagle, five brothers; Elmer Slagle, Clifford Slagle, Jack Slagle, Richard Slagle, John Slagle, and one sister; Elizabeth Slagle.
He is survived by his wife, Ackie Hughes Slagle of whom he married on November 3, 1956 in Bristol, TN. He is also survived by one son; David Franklin Jr. (Sheila) Slagle, four daughters; Sandra (Rudy) Turnbough of Minnesota, Teresa May of Somerset, KY., Rebecca McKenzie of Georgia, and Linda (Ron) Sears of Nevada, two brothers; Jerry (Ann) Slagle of Bristol, TN. and Bob Slagle of Greenville, SC, two sisters; Nancy (Jim) Johnson of Bristol, TN and Patricia Childress of Bristol, TN., twenty five grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday February 15, 2015 from 2pm to 4pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday February 16, 2015 at 1pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Dawson and Bro. Scott Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Slate Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Military Honors provided by the American Legion Honor Guard Post# 38.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Isaac White Foundation in C/O of Southern Oaks Funeral Home 2110 West Hwy 914 Somerset, KY 42503.
