Rev. Junior Dillard Phillips age 79 of Eubank, KY passed on to be with our Lord Jesus on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY.
Bro. Junior was born in the Delta Community in Wayne Co. KY on January 18, 1936. He was the son of the late Rev. C.E. “Esker” and Ethel Whitehead Phillips.
He married the love of his life, Zella Flynn on February 29, 1952. The couple would have celebrated sixty-three unforgettable years together next month.
He was an accomplished carpenter and foreman for many prominent buildings in Pulaski and Fayette Counties for Consco Construction Co. of Lexington, KY. Ordained to ministry on April 11, 1959, Junior spent most of his life serving and leading others to the Lord. He was a well-known Baptist preacher for many small churches throughout Pulaski, Wayne and McCreary Counties including Dripping Springs Baptist Church, Buck Creek Baptist Church and many more. His wealth of knowledge and Godly influence will be greatly missed.
Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Gilbert and Gillard Phillips, a sister; Yvonna Davis, and others that passed in infancy.
He is survived by his wife; Zella Flynn Phillips of Eubank, two brothers; Ervin (and Paulette) Phillips of Somerset, and Delmer (and Joanne) Phillips of Indiana, a sister; Flonnie New of Wayne Co., two sons; Donnie (and Amy) Phillips, and Randy Phillips, and three daughters; Virginia (and David) Jones, Georgia Kay (and Lowell) Phillips, and Janet (and Steve) Spears, all of Somerset. He had four grandchildren; Misty (and David) Tingle, Chad (and Crystal) Spears, Ryan Phillips (and Lindsey Hudson), and Brittany Phillips, and five great-grandchildren; Sebastian, Abram, and Jasper Tingle, and Braxton and Sophie Spears, all of Somerset. Mr. Phillips was also looked after by many other friends he called his family. His children are especially thankful to Pam Leigh, who Junior affectionately called his own, for compassionately caring for their father in his last days.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 21, 2015 after 6pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday January 22, 2015 at 2pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Rufus Hughes and Bro. Kelly Tucker officiating.
Burial will follow in the Southern Oaks Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Phillips, Chad Spears, Andy Brown, Mikel Webb, Danny Flick, David Tingle, Sebastian Tingle and Abram Tingle and Is Hines.
Southern Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
