Alonzo William “Bill” Brinson, age 82 of Mt. Carmel, OH passed away on Sunday November 16, 2014 in Milford, OH.
He was born on November 29, 1931 to the late Nannie F. (Meece) Brinson and Willie E. Brinson in Drum, KY.
He married Violet Sears and she survives. Born to this union were two daughters, Amy Joy (Gary) Bryant and Tammy Rana (Trevor) Gilpin of Ohio, a granddaughter, Amber (Dustin) Carter and a great grandson, William Kolton Carter of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nannie and Willie Brinson, four brothers, Earnest, Arnold, Carvel, and Leo Brinson and an infant sister, Ginnie V Brinson.
He is survived by three brothers, Garland (Joyce) Brinson, Starland (Doris) Brinson, and Cecil Pete (Joan) Brinson, all of Somerset, KY., two sisters, Janett (Jack) Woodall of Somerset, KY., and Margaret Hall of Ferguson, KY., and a sister-in-law, Thelma Brinson of Somerset, KY. He is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Ruby (James) Carty of Somerset, KY and Jean (Wayne) Sumpter of Ohio, and several in-laws.
He served his country in the United States Marines as Corporal in January 2, 1952 and Combat Duty in the Korean Conflict where he received the Korean Service Medal and the United States Service Medal. Bill was very proud to have served his country and went to Arlington National Cemetery on an honor flight. Bill never saw a stranger and all kids got his attention. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday November 18, 2014 from 4pm to 7pm at Glen Este Baptist Church located at 1034 Old State Route 74 in Batavia, OH., where he was a member.
A second visitation will be held at Southern Oaks Funeral Home located at 2110 West Hwy 914 Somerset, KY on Thursday November 20, 2014 from 10am to 1pm with the funeral service to follow at 1pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Brother Harold Harris officiating.
Burial will be in Poplarville Cemetery.
